The goalkeeper of Masar Club and the Egyptian women’s national team, Habiba Sabry, was nominated to join the FIFA 2025 squad.

The Egyptian goalkeeper appears on a list of 11 candidates for the Best Goalkeeper in the World award, alongside big names such as Kata Cole (Barcelona and Spain) and Hannah Hampton (Chelsea and England).

Habiba Sabry became the first Egyptian goalkeeper to receive this honor, in an unprecedented achievement for women’s football in Egypt.

Habiba was born in the Suez Governorate of Egypt. She is 19 years old and currently plays for Masar Club, which she led to achieve the Egyptian Women’s League title in the past two seasons.

Habiba began her career in one of the football academies, and moved between the Nuba team and the Suez national team, with which she rose to the Egyptian Premier League, before joining Masar.

Habiba set a record in the Egyptian Women’s Premier League, by keeping a clean sheet in 21 out of 28 matches during the 2023-2024 season, according to Egyptian press reports.

Habiba also contributed to her team winning the bronze medal in the 2024 African Champions League after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens on penalties, to be crowned the best goalkeeper in the tournament at the time.

Habiba was previously nominated for the Best Young Player in Africa award in 2024, and she continues to compete for the same award this year.
