German Automobile Club: Electric Cars Are Less Prone To Breakdowns Than Combustion Engine Cars

uaetodaynews.com — German Automobile Club: Electric cars are less prone to breakdowns than combustion engine cars

According to the club’s statistics, the electric cars that were registered for the first time between 2020 and 2022 in Germany had a breakdown rate of 4.2 breakdowns per thousand cars. While this rate for combustion engine cars registered in the same period reached 10.4 per thousand cars.

This confirms previous findings by the German Automobile Club, but is now based on much broader data, given the increasing number of electric cars.

Although the analysis shows that the failure rate is decreasing overall, it is declining especially rapidly for electric vehicles that are three years old. The Automobile Club attributes this – among other things – to the fact that “many of the initial problems and weaknesses that electric cars suffered in their early years have now been resolved through the learning process gained by manufacturers.”

According to the club’s experts, the battery in cars is the one that causes the most problems in both combustion engine cars and electric cars. The evaluation was based on cases in which the German Automobile Club’s road breakdown team was called.

The results of a study conducted by JD Power, a company specialized in statistics, indicated that most of the malfunctions that electric cars suffer from are related to software, and these problems affect the operation of their electronic components.
