£1m Deal For Senegal Defender

Liverpool have landed the signature of teenage centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye from Senegal, while one outlet has claimed Crystal Palace are still anticipating a move for Marc Guehi.

Liverpool complete signing of Talla Ndiaye in 7-figure deal

Less than a week after reports first emerged, Liverpool have signed centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye from Amitie FC for a fee in the region of £1 million, as per the Athletic.

The club beat out competition for the 18-year-old thanks to the “pathway they presented” and the financial package offered to his Senegalese club that included add-ons.

Having turned 18 earlier in the week, he is free to make the move to Merseyside to join Rob Page’s U21s, which could prompt a loan move for Amara Nallo in the January window.

It does mean the club have bolstered their defensive ranks at academy level, with Ndiaye joining the likes of Nallo, Wellity Lucky, Noah Adekoya, and Carter Pinnington – with Ifeanyi Ndukwe to join in the summer.

Ndiaye is naturally a left-sided defender and he impressed at the U17 World Cup with Senegal, with his development now in the hands of Liverpool.

If we can’t sign centre-backs at senior level, may as well get as many as we can at the academy!

Liverpool FC: On this day

Two notable former Reds celebrate their birthdays on January 9, Ray Houghton and Lucas Leiva.

The former turns 64 this year, while Liverpool’s first adopted Brazilian hits the age of 39.

For the younger readers, Houghton played 202 times for Liverpool as a key midfielder who won two league titles and two FA Cups from 1987 to 1992.

Lucas didn’t have the silverware to match his longevity, but he is still remembered fondly having played 346 times for Liverpool and turned around a shaky start to eventually win club player of the year in 2011.
