My Date Ghosted Me – Then Resurfaced On Hinge After I Lost Weight. But I Got The Last Laugh After His Ridiculous Text

A Melbourne single woman has been left reeling after the man who abruptly ghosted her years ago resurfaced on a dating app only to admit he’d ignored her the first time because she wasn’t attractive enough.

Rachel McDonald, 25, shared the jaw-dropping encounter in a

explaining she matched with the unnamed man on Hinge three years after he vanished without explanation.

Setting the scene, Rachel told followers she had recently undergone a weight loss journey, describing it as a personal ‘level up.’

‘For a bit of context, I’ve lost a whole heap of weight, and I’m much confident in myself now,’ she explained as well as detailing she had also changed back to her natural hair colour after previously being bleach blonde.

‘So, a couple of years ago, when I first moved to Melbourne, I was seeing this guy, but, you know, my self-confidence was quite low.’

Despite dating casually, she said the man suddenly disappeared: ‘Lo and behold, he ghosted me – if you’re not interested, you can just say that.’

Fast-forward to earlier this year, when Rachel spotted a familiar face among her Hinge likes, spotting ‘Mr Ghosting-Man’ immediately.

‘The balls on this man, like, is he actually serious?’ she said.

‘So naturally I messaged back saying, “you’ve got balls, champ. I would love to know, where you get the audacity from”.’

The reply she received only escalated the situation after the man acted confused and replied he had never seen her before in his life.

Rachel said she was baffled by the denial, insisting she looked different – but not unrecognisable.

After reminding him they’d dated previously, she finally revealed her Instagram handle, which is when the conversation took a brutal turn.

‘He responds, “Oh my god, Rach, you are literally unrecognisable, good on you. You are so hot now”,’ she recited.

Stunned, Rachel didn’t hold back, calling him out and confronting him about ghosting her all those years prior.

‘It’s not that hard to just tell somebody you’re not interested,’ she said.

‘He then says to me something along the lines of, “If I’d known you were going to get this attractive, I never would have ghosted you in the first place”.’

Rachel said the man claimed he was ‘confused’ and insisted he had ‘never seen her before’ until she shared her Instagram handle. He then told her she was ‘literally unrecognisable’ and ‘so hot now’, later admitting he ‘never would have ghosted’ her if he’d known she would ‘get this attractive’ Pictured: Rachel before (left) and a now with her natural hair colour (right)

Despite the awkward exchange, the man attempted to shoot his shot anyway, suggesting they meet up to ‘rekindle things,’ which Rachel said she shut down immediately

‘I just responded, “Are you taking the p*ss?”‘

‘Like, what response is that? Like in what f***ing world are these men FROM?’

Despite the awkward exchange, the man attempted to shoot his shot anyway, suggesting they meet up to ‘rekindle things,’ which Rachel said she shut down immediately.

‘You must have been dropped on your head as a child, if you think that there is even the most minute chance that I’m going out for drinks with you. Are you that deluded?’ she said.

She waited before unmatching him, wanting him to see her final message – but his last attempt to smooth things over only reinforced her decision.

‘He responds saying, “Don’t be like that. That was so many years ago, we’re both grown people now”.’

‘Mate, I’m seeing no growth here.’

The video has since sparked widespread discussion about ghosting culture, dating apps and the brutal honesty some people reserve for behind a screen.

‘God that’s so cooked. Glad you gave him a piece of your mind,’ one follower commented.

‘My jaw dropped then didn’t come back up,’ another said.

‘The audacity is INSANE,’ one shared.

Rachel added: ‘I do not perpetuate ghosting culture.

‘Calling him out is… what we have to do because these men just think that they can do anything and they can’t.’
