During the wait for the verdict, Salah was withdrawn in the 89th minute and watched the nervy final minutes from the bench.
His goal ended South Africa’s 27-game unbeaten run and secured his side’s place in the last 16.
When will Salah play in AFCON knockouts?
With six points from their first two games, Egypt have secured their progression to the knockouts with a game to spare, although they will want to guarantee top spot against Angola.
The last 16 will be played on either January 4 or 5 for Egypt, which falls on the weekend Liverpool travel to face Fulham in the Premier League.
